you mean the baptism of speaking in tongues, right?...we should already have the holy spirit dwelling in us from the time we've accepted Jesus as our Lord and savior. I hate to be picky about the wording, but there are other's that might be confused when reading what you say...and we don't want to mislead anyone.

Welcome Holy Spirit
We are in Your presence
Fill us with Your power
Live inside of me

We lift our hands to worship You
Holy Spirit, Holy One
Come into this temple
Hold us in Your arms
You're the living water
Never drying fountain
Comforter and counselor
Take complete control

No offence or anything...But I really don't understand why you all would pray and fast to speak in tongues... I mean if it's a gift from God... shouldn't you let him give it to you when he wants to, if he wants to? ...

WOW! why are you referring to biblical principles here??? don't you know that in certain churches, ALL their members have the SAME EXACT GIFT???

i hate to say it, but these teachings about staruinta and speaking in tongues are unbiblical.

god bless all the ones that are seeking his will, but you have to look beyond the speaking in tongues realm. don't get stuck on that.

And don't take advice from people who aren't seeking it as well. ;) God knows what you are looking for by going to staruinta, and He will meet your need. He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him...

God gives it to us because he is good, not because we deserve. However, he won't just give it to you under extraordinary circumstances. The Bible says through John that those that believe AND ASK will receive, because God is good and kind.

See, you have to pray and fast because that's how you get it. On the day of Pentecost when the twelve disciples (and other people) received it, they stood in fast and prayed for MUCH time. God wants to give it to you as a gift, and he ALWAYS gives more than you think. A gift might be an extra word now and then, a new language, singing in another language.

The desire to have it needs to be present in your heart, and you need to ask for it.:icecream:

Wow, Nihilo, sorry, but you just don't know what you're talking about. It says in the Bible, and let me quote :

"I baptize with water, but there comes on that baptizes with fire and the Holy Spirit."

John said that, somewhere in the beginning of John. That clearly shows that Jesus baptizes with the Spirit. Want to go deeper? Look in Acts.

Acts 2, from the beginning : And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The Bible advocates being baptized with the Holy Spirit. In fact, it says (and I'll look for this right now) that those that aren't baptized by Jesus with the Spirit won't enter God's kingdom. Most people these days deny the validity of the Holy Spirit because they don't want to think of themselves as NOT SAVED.

Get over it. The Holy Spirit is real, and everyone needs it. The Bible speaks of it, and just last night, a guy at church was baptized with the Holy Spirit and received the speaking in tongues.

What are you? Catholic? Because Catholic people don't believe in the Holy Spirit. It's sad, really. It's in the Bible. The Bible clearly speaks about fasting and praying for the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is an adviser, a helper. You pray with your soul and through the Holy Spirit when you have it. You experience things that Jesus wants you to experience. :argue:

Why would you agree with what Nihilo says when it says in the Bible that everyone that wants to be saved needs the Holy Spirit?

Sort of. When you accept Jesus in your heart, you FEEL the Spirit working at your heart, changing what needs to be changed, knocking down walls that need to be knocked down (like obsession with naughty websites, women, money, etc), making the weak areas strong, and what I noticed the most : A huge desire for church and the Bible.

This is when you are "under the power" and when you are being cleansed so that you can receive the Spirit. The Spirit won't be poured into a dirty container. You need to be clean and pure and full of desire for the Spirit and for Jesus.

But yes, you were essentially right. Just not specific enough. :clap1: :yeahdude: :hello: :baby:  :saint1:

When I first became a Pentecostal, and even before that when I was a Baptist and had some Charismatic and Penti friends, I always was curious about the different theologies of the Spirit that must exist between us.

My big question was, if you receive something called the Baptism of the Holy Spirit after you have already become a Christian, then do you have the Holy Spirit before in some sense?

Some Pentecostals felt that the Spirit was with you, but not in you. Others were honest that they didn't know. Some Pastors told me that everyone has the Holy Spirit, but you get more with the "Baptism." I was getting closer.

Pat Robertson, a Charismatic Baptist, says that when you become a Christian, the Holy Spirit baptizes you into Christ, and then when you're ready, Jesus baptizes you with the Holy Spirit.

All these are 'paradigms.' You know what that word means? It's a term for a cut-out die which produces a pattern in an art or craft project. We all view the world through our individual paradigms. We change them, and then we see the world differently.

Here's the bottom line, without me getting too analytical. If you are a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit already. Even if you are a Pentecostal who has not yet received the "Baptism." At the Baptism, you are filled to overflow.

In fact, because in Baptist and standard Evangelical theology, the baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs when you are saved and is not accompanied by a sign gift, some Charismatics have stopped referring to the second experience as the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

HOLD ON, I see you there, getting bored with this: I have a point, and it's just that we all are talking about similar things using different terms. You just have to think about it a bit, and then we can get on with being confused...but this time about higher and more significant things. :laf:

Everyone who is saved has the Holy Spirit. They just haven't been "overflowed."

Some questions remain, but this gives us a ground on which to fellowship, and the more we understand each other, even if we differ, we can accept one another.

Yup. My pastor talked about the idea of overflowing. Oh, and I'm really interested in that stuff. It isn't boring at all. :D

What I think is needed: people to define what the baptism of the Spirit means.
