I saw the preview for the movie... let’s just say Mel did a great job depicting the suffering of our Lord and I can’t wait to see it. He put in a lot of effort to make it great. I may be mistaken, but I think the Virgin Mary is played by a Romanian actress. Coming out Easter 2004!

I know Mel Gibson's The Passion of Christ will be a great movie. It's his calling to make this movie and he has been putting this movie off for ten years. Why, I don't have an answer to that. Mel Gibson even funded this movie, the money came from his pocket or close friends of his. And another reason to look forward to this movie is that it's not your typical hollywood jesus movie, everything is from the bible. It's like the pope said and I quote " It is as is meant to be".

This appears that it will be a good movie based upon the preview, but I will save that opinion until after I have seen it.

For those that were offended by Bruce Almighty, and Finding Nemo, I suggest you stay home and not watch any movies.

Well, you see, I found it offensive because of the fact that ALL the sea animals were speaking English, whether or not they had an Australian accent, a French one, or an English one. It was all in the English language.

That was offensive because it shows that fish can think and talk, and we know that God only created man with the ability to reason. So, it is a bad depiction of God, although it does not mention God or has nothing really to do with God in the movie.

It was blasphemous toward God as a whole, and even though I found it to be a very entertaining movie for myself and for kids of all ages, I still found it offensive.

Recently , Doug Tennapel , a fellow Christian and creator of Earthworm Jim and the Christian Sci-Fi , B&W Graphic Novel “Creature Tech” (I checked out a few pages, very cool. It deals with the Shroud of Turin and has a Hellboy vibe. 5 stars at amazon. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1891830341/aintitcooln07-20 ) reviewed The Passion at Aintitcoolnews.com (best site on the net). One of the many Passion reviews there , all positive by the way (and that‘s saying something because alot of the AICN crowd is far from Christian).

What I want is to get an opinion of a particular scene he describes that’s not in the bible but obviously artistic license.
MINOR SPOILERS
This is but a short scene so I don’t think it will ruin the film for you and besides if you don’t know how this story ends , then please don’t breed. Here’s what Tennapel says

“Skip the rest of this paragraph if you don’t want to hear about the scariest thing I’ve ever seen depicted on celluloid… when Jesus is being whipped, he is in agony. The devil floats among the guards in slo-mo, seemingly invisible to them…and what’s that in her arms? A baby. She cradles the baby like it is her own, yet she is clearly mocking the imagery we’ve seen of Mary holding her child. Jesus looks up at her, delirious from pain and the baby…slowly turns to us…and it has a horrifying blasphemous-psycho smile. My wife turned her head, “Oh stop!” I got a chill up my spine that would rival the scariest moments in Exorcist. I’m not kidding, that image is burned in my brain forever and I’ll never forget that. It’s delicious. I’m getting nauseated thinking about it right now. Evil ****ed baby.”

Well, it sounds like a great scene , to be sure. Knowing this , has it affected your anticipation of the film either way. And does this scene , in your opinion , invalidate the film’s sense of accuracy?

Discuss.

BTW , do you think I should have started a new thread with this?

Nah, you're fine in this one. You're still discussing the topic at hand. :D

are you guys sure its coming out late feb cuz i was passing by one of the movie theatres today while i was running errands and the sign outside the ticket office said "Passion of Christ" but maybe it was just a preview or something.

Its really cool that they're making christian movies instead of all those ones with sex, drugs, and crap like that. even tho i like the crap sometimes lol but its good to have a change!

It was just probably a preview poster. They DO advertise movies before they are actually shown at theaters.

There have been movies about Christ before, but this one is getting really good reviews. We shall see why when it comes out.
