Where does it come from?

Well I think we all know that temptation comes from the Devil. But, if you think carefully about it, it comes from God, because the Devil does not have supreme power over anything, God does, and God is the one that alows the Devil to tempt us. Think back to Job(Iov in Romanian). God allowed the Devil to harm Job, but not to kill him. God sends us temptaions and tribulations but always provides a way out through the Holy Spirit and His Word.
1 Corinthians 10:13

God tempts no one (James 1:13) - "Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone."
so then if God can not be tempted by Evil... it must be Evil doing the tempting... I would have to say temptation comes from Satan and his followers.

So your saying the that God did not temp Job? Then what happened to Job? Because he was tempted in a way, his faith was put to the test, was it not?

Go and search for Temptation under the Chit Chat forum....and you'll find it....it's been debated before...and the same person who started this one, started the other one.....it looks like it's been started twice, but around the same time....more people responded to the last one....read it!!!!

You can also go to the top tabs on the page and do a search for any other threads with the words *temptation* in it, and it will pull up any other threads for you.
I started to do this before starting a new thread so that there are not too many similar threads out there on the same topic.

Hmmm... should this thread be moved into the Chit Chat or Bible Discussions area?
Are there any moderators reading this suggestion at all?

temptation is from the devil. pure and simple. if one thinks that God is the one that tempts us......we need to open our bible more.

Paul says that God will NOT allow us to be tempted beyond our ability to resist and that he will give us a way to escape. So when we are tempted we should say "Thank you, God, for trusting me that much. You know I can handle this temptation. Now, what do you want me to do?"
1 Corinthians 10:13
"But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experiences. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a away out so that you will not give in to it"
God tempts no one (James 1:13) - "Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone."

no God did not tempt job...if you read the story you'll see. read Job 1:1-5 and then it goes on to say where verse 6 starts Jobs First Test. not jobs first temptation...i read the NIV Bible idodnt know if every translation has the same titles...but then Chapter 2 starts with Jobs Second Test...again not temptation...god does not tempt anyone...he will test us and put us through trials to test our faith...but he will never tempt us...testing and tempting are 2 totally different things...satan tempts...god tests...god is against sin so he will not say, "hey remember what u did last week? rememeber how good it felt, you know it was wrong and i dont like it....but it made you feel so good" no no no...god does not do this...its satan who says these things to us...

I agree God does not tempt us. The devil tempts us. Saying that God tempts us would mean you were saying God was evil.
well said Arie. God bless you.

God tests us, the devil tempts us.
God may allow us to go through a difficult time...
the devil places sin on a platter for us...
God would never lead us into sin.

Also, when God tests our faith, it's sort of like seeing if we fall into temptation(the devils trap) OR we resist the temptation, and avem biruinta prin incercarea. God will always test our faith, we will go through trials and tribulations, and thru it all we also will be tempted. He wants to see if we are true to him and his word or just plain hypocrites that will deceive him.
God does not tempt us at all...even when he is testing us...he will NEVER put us in the position where we can choose to sin or not...thats tempting us...and god does not tempt...when he tests us its either through the lose of a family member or friend...or some kind of illness strikes us or an accident of some sort...um burning house, lose everything materialistic...this is testing our faith in him...how we choose to act on this is totally up to us...he wont ever force us to love him and follow him...we can say "i cant take it anymore...its too much for me to handle...i dont believe a loving god would ever do this" we can say this all we want but its not true and we know it...i dont remember who said earlier that god will never put us through anything that we cant overcome...every test he gives us will be bearable...

Well, if Paul states that God will NOT allow us to be tempted beyond our ability to resist and that he will give us a way to escape. Then I believe we are being tempted both by God and he does not allow us to be tempted beyond our abilities. So he is testing our faith in the process. And the Devil also tempts us in other situations as well, and when we are tempted by the Devil we fall in his strap stronger then ever, but when we are tempted by God we have an escape plan.
maybe you didnt read this...it was posted earlier by someone...read it then try telling me that God tempts...(James 1:13) - "Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone." if you dont understand this verse then it can be explained to you...well actually whats there to not understand? it says right there in the verse that God does not tempt...very easy to understand...

Okay then WHY does Paul say that God will NOT allow us to be tempted beyond our ability to resist and that he will give us a way to escape. So when we are tempted we should say "Thank you, God, for trusting me that much. You know I can handle this temptation. Now, what do you want me to do?"
and what is the purpose and meaning for this Bible verse
1 Corinthians 10:13
"But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experiences. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a away out so that you will not give in to it"
that verse doesnt say anything about God tempting us...it just says that he will show us a way out of temptation. when satan tempts us, God will show us a way out...he will help us stand up against it and fight it...the bible doesnt contradict itself God himself doesnt contradict what he says...

I like you Kissme, but what you have stated above is blasphemy against God.
LISTEN GIRL....
Is God PURE??? YES!!!! Is God RIGHTEOUS and HOLY???????? YES YES!!!! How in the world can you say God tempts us to sin????? HOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! When the bible states that God will not allow us to be tempted beyond our abilities and the fact that He ALWAYS gives us a way to overcome it.........IT MEANS God will not allow THE DEVIL to tempt us soooooo greatly that we will have no way to escape, but only to sin. DO YOU UNDERSTAND??????? In God's nature He CANNOT make us SIN or tempt us.
I WANT THIS THREAD TO END BECAUSE SOME OF YOU PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THINGS YOU UTTER. There's a difference between stating your opinion about something and completely different when you go against God and what He stands for. You either know WHO God is, or go ask your pastor, than come here and state your opinions about stuff, instead of speaking some stupid evil thing and others will just believe you.

HOT....God did NOT invent temptation. When you people read the first 2 chapters in Genesis, you will learn more from there about our human nature and our likeness to God than any book about human nature or so called "christian books". IF God invented temptation, that would mean He Himself would tempt us. IF God invented it, it would mean He aided the Devil in his evil work.

by the way you really need to take it easy it sounds like ur attacking people, and saying theyre words are evil..thats really not a nice thing to say, if ur so fired up about it just keep it to urself, you dont have to go yelling at people because maybe what they are saying IS their opinion and you need to learn to respect that and if you think differently then kudos to you but you need to just take a breather

hey, be happy i didn't start rebuking you. i don't take advice about such important matters from people online. The truth has to be said, especially if it's a grave matter as this. Talking all "nicely" doesn't really work.

i don't take advice about such important matters from people online. well then you shouldnt try to make a point online...Talking all "nicely" doesn't really work. thats a sign that you should take your attitude somewhere else..it was just a question and you dont have to be all rude about it! be happy i didn't start rebuking you. your not the only person that can argue..but im above that

actually you didnt say anything rude to me but ur comin off a little strong and ur getting WAY into this..like people are probably afraid to write what they think because your gonna attack them if they dont have the same answer as you, and theres nothing to end because nothing was started :)

10-18-2004, 10:25 PM
actually it's the opposite....hahahahahahahah. they write TOO much stuff. they like to go against me. hahahahahhaah. but i don't always "win". i state what i think and what the bible says. like i once wrote, we all have to TEST what is true or false from what others say, in order to fully know the truth.

Yupp... well I kinda like my version of this verse better...
1 Corinthians 10:13
"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.
And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."

The devil tempts us in our mind. He can use thoughts to tempt us. We can overcome every temptation if we trust God and rely on His power.
