I did a search on this topic and some stuff came up like dancing but i'm looking for prom specifically :D
ok, well who went to their prom?
i want to go to prom real bad. i see nothing wrong with it , but i dont think my mom's going to let me go. i have a bunch of guy friends at school and whne we talk about prom their always sayin 'yeah, prom, i cant wait! :wow: ' they like expect sex . but if your not gonna do anyting wrong there, its not bad to go right?

well lets think of is this way... you go to prom to have fun right... but all the guys who are going are going for sex... and really you'll probaly end up dancing with one of those guys... so the question now is... why would you go to prom to dance with guys if they only want to have sex with you afterwards... like taking a lamb to the slaughter... and she doesn't even know it! :wow:

Hmm...I personally wouldnt want to go to my prom probably cause all of the people would become drunk and what-not and thats not cool. Pikles if your parents wont let you go, maybe its for a really good reason.

Ok, I don't know how things work back in south, but here at the official prom there are certain social expectations (like no alcoholic bevarages or drugs). Unless you have a really close friend, I do not suggest you to go. I just don't see what you can do since pretty much all the people have their dancing partner. I didn't go because my Irina lives in B.C. Had she have been around here, I would have been the proudest attendant of the prom, all the fellows would have been gealous! :bfro:
Now, wicked people you will meet at the "after-grad" parties, which are held to the cottages of certain fellows or in parks. Here you are expected to bring your own alcohool, and here is where immorality is home. 90% of the people who attend this "civilized" places (with or without partner) go in the pursuit of hard-core entertainment that culminates with sex. Don't go there whatever...even if your boyfriend begs you!
i never ended up going to my prom. i always said i would. but....in the middle of my senior year....I moved to Tennessee. i graduated early...and never really knew any of the people at my school. i said i was gonna go to prom just for the heck of it....but..no one wanted to go with me :( lol. (not from the school....from my friends at church and all) and so....i never went. in fact..i didnt even go to graduation....instead..i went to cali for the better part of the summer. and actually..i still dont have my printed diploma lol...i guess i should get on top of that and see where it went
but well.....prom is prom....for the girl..its all about the dress....for the guys..well....you already stated that part lol. so....for me....its kinda like when i go to the theater...i dress up. and so....i guess my "proms" are when i go to an opera or musical. most people nowadays dont dress up as nice anymore...but i do it for the fun of it....its gotta be authentic :) anyhow...if you want to go....then go. but if your mom wont let you....respect that.
(wow...sorry for rambling on)

Oh, poor innocent girls, they are like some defenceless sheeps among the fierce wolves (boys) that just wait to have them naked. They have no clue to what danger they expose to.
Tupi. all respect but as a masculine person I feel offended by what you insinuated. Not to mention that you confuse the prom with the after-grad party (where by the way, girls are aware as well what it's most likely going to happen). Please, be more attentive with your comments. Or is it that bad in US and I don't know?

I was really involved in hs ... played 3 sports, student government, school clubs, all that good stuff ... and not only did I want to go to my school dances, but I even had to help organize and set up for all of them. But whenever it came time for one of the school dances my parents and I would have a huge arguement about why they won't let me go. Out of the 12 school dances, I only went to one of them (Sadie Hawkins). It was fun, I went with a Christian friend from school. But I now don't know if it was worth the many fights I had with my parents all throughout hs. Although I still wish I coulda gone to Prom or atleast Homecoming, just to see what it's like, I'm glad I respected my parents' decision and didn't go against their will. I was really resentful towards my parents in high school for being as strict as they were, because I didn't have the full high school experience like all my school friends. But now that I'm in college and I live at school and I have all the freedom I want, I can see exactly why they were the way they were. So in conclusion lol, I say you should just respect your parents but if they end up letting u go, take a good Christian guy you trust. Watch out for those high school boys, haha I had a lot of friends (now I view them as acquaintences) like the guys you're talking about earlier and they can be really sneaky and nice to you when they want something.

I went to Homecoming, Turnabout (like Sadie Hawkins), and definitely to my Prom. My parents let me go because they trusted me. And I went with my gay friend to all of the dinners and dances. My parents didn't know then that my friend is gay, but they know now and forgave me for not telling them all these years. I guess there was an advantage to him being gay... I didn't have to worry about anything happening as far as him pressuring me into anything. LOL! I don't regret going to Prom. I'm glad that I did because it's your one chance to go and if I didn't I would've always wondered what it would've been like. It was definitely a blast, though. :)

i'm a bit dyslexic, and i thought the title of this thread was about porn... hmmm... i guess it's not... unless we are going to discuss what most parents think about what occasionally happens during prom nights... you know, the typical dance, hotel, and then... well, this thread is not about that, i guess... lol.

i don't think it's that bad as long as all you do is go there to talk to your friends and not do anything bad. i'm thinking about going to prom but i'm still not sure. the only way i'm going is if i've got a date. and the date will probably be from my church. lots of nice guys there. plus you know you can trust them and you know they won't do anything stupid.

Cici, what school did you go to? I went to a lot of school homecomings and stuff and I never thought ghetto... I went to lots of homecomings, and it was really fun, but most of us just sat and talked, looked at other people's outfits and stuff. I went to Lahser's, Avondale's Pontiac Northern's and Hazel Park's and I never really felt like it was ghetto, like a record player and some old disco records. (haha, that would be funny) Personally, I feel that the most fun surrounding prom/homecoming is getting dressed up, doing your hair and looking forward to it. If you don't dance, it's no big deal, but it is a chance to get "prettied up" and feel like a princess for the night. And plus, nobody is dragging you to those hotel parties. When my fiance and I went to my senior prom, we went straight home, split a bottle of sparkling grape juice (bcause it tastes good) and watched "Saturday Night Live". He went home at a modest 12:30 am and the next morning, I brushed down my hair and he came over to pick me up and we went to church together. It was fun, but not wild, which just goes to show you that doing crazy things isn't rewarding, however you can be a regular teenager, have fun and not sacrifice your principles.

I went to prom last year.. It was the best dance i had ever gone to..
I had a blast...All you girls who decide not to go.. Your missing out on a ton of FUN!
im not sure about going to MY prom..
cuz the person i want to go with, would probably not be able to go with me..
but in return, i belive i would try to go to hers :) so i could make her happy :)
I had this conversation with some one the other day and they told me that its not ok to go to the prom..... i told them that it is and there is nothing wrong with it....... (they said its a sin)....... what do u belive ........ is it wrong .... or is it bad ..... or is it ok.......... is there anything in the bible that tells us that its not ok .......
This thread is dedicated to Mihaela....
i think it all depends on what u believe. certain people believe its a sin to go to the movies...or to dance...or to even go to a dance. i also think it depends on what ur doing there aswell. the prom being a sin would depend on what u plan on doing there. i was grown up to think that goin to a dance is a sin and that God doesnt watch over people when their in the theater and stuff like that...but again it all depends on what ur doing when ur there. hope that helps
No, b/c it's all fur appearances :< Forgit thata =/ There's no point. All those worldly ppl when ya'll can do sumthang more productive with yure lives......furreal ;)
i think i kinda sound too unclear...i dont think its wrong as long as ur not doing anything stupid while ur there...i dont think its wrong to go to the theatre and i dont think its wrong to go to a dance depending on what ur goin to watch and what ur going to do.
Liza im gonna pick on u a bit dont take it personally...but couldnt u be doin something more productive with ur life rite now? i mean instead of bein on the net where there's all these "worldly people" u could be reading the bible instead...no?

no way, i dont believe going to prom is a sin. As Sum1 said above, it depends of what you're doing there. If you're there to grind up all over everyone in your school and act inappropiatly then obviously, it's a sin. But to go and hang out with your friends and just have a good time together..to me is not a sin. All you're basically doing is getting dressed up to go to a big birthday party or something to spend time with ppl lol. We all go to bday parties right? I went to my prom and in no way did i feel convicted, nor did it affect my walk with the Lord. I guess it's different for everyone...everyone has their own convictions. To each his own! but thats just me!
i think it all depends on what u believe. certain people believe its a sin to go to the movies...or to dance...or to even go to a dance. i also think it depends on what ur doing there aswell. the prom being a sin would depend on what u plan on doing there. i was grown up to think that goin to a dance is a sin and that God doesnt watch over people when their in the theater and stuff like that...but again it all depends on what ur doing when ur there. hope that helps
Ya but in the one of the psalms God says "dance for me...." ill find the original passage and ill put it up......... but from what i remember its ok ....... like you said it depends on how you were grown up...... some people belive its a sin to clap in church........ other belive that in church man should sit sepate from women......... what im saying Y do we have to go by what people say and not go by what the bible says ......... so if in the bible it says dance y cant we dance .........
the whole point of the Prom is to get together with all ur classmates and friends one last time because after that, everyone goes their seperate ways and u mite never see those people again.

03-18-2005, 12:44 PM
i heard many say that its a sin to eat a banana if its not sliced, can u believe that
ppl thing of stupid things even when they eat bananas
so that's as it the prom thing
Y do we have to go by what people say and not go by what the bible says [/b] ......... so if in the bible it says dance y cant we dance .........
it also says somewhere in the bible...sa nu fii pricina de carta...or something like that...excuse my romanian...meaning if everyone in ur church believes its bad to clap...then dont clap just so it doesnt start more trouble. i totally agree with u that we should follow the bible and not other people...i just think it would be better to listen sometimes than to start trouble.

That what i though....... i dont think its a sin.... you go there to eat and talk to ur friends.... i would have to say that if the prom is a sin then "o masa dupa o nunta is a sin as well"

Um... well I didn't go to my prom.. not because of teh whole Christian aspect.. but I'm not into the whole prom appeal...
But yea.. I can see why people would find it wrong... it's the dancing part mostly...
it also says somewhere in the bible...sa nu fii pricina de carta...or something like that...excuse my romanian...meaning if everyone in ur church believes its bad to clap...then dont clap just so it doesnt start more trouble. i totally agree with u that we should follow the bible and not other people...i just think it would be better to listen sometimes than to start trouble.
OK if thats what u say ... but here is what i say ...... if everyone in the church belives its bad to do something ...... and they are actualy doing bad things....... you should sit there and not do anything about it...... even if it starts trouble.....
well thats practically already happening...everone in my church believes its bad to clap in church....if i believe its not...and i clap...how much better will that make me? everyone would think im crazy...they'd probably start praying for me. its not that their sinning by not clapping...but they believe its wrong. so what would it solve if i start clapping? or if they believe young girls should wear a batic...but i dont want to and i go without one...what would that solve? sometimes u just gotta let things be. it wouldnt solve anything to go against them.

Hm, depends on what you are doing, as Sum1 stated.
I went to my senior prom but all I did was sit there, eat, and talk with my friends. I didn't dance because first of all, I don't like to dance. Secondly, I saw how most of my classmates were dancing and it was pretty inappropriate for the most part. Lastly, If there is anyone I will dance for, it will be for the Lord. But I'd rather sing praises to God than somehow express the same feelings by dancing.
Whether or not it is a sin, I am not sure. Many Christian denominations will take it as dancing=sin because are you really dancing at the prom to glorify God?? Probably not. Lots of people want to 'get their groove' on, as they say. Others will say it is just in fun. As Christians we need to be able to differeniate right from wrong in their own behavior.
Liza im gonna pick on u a bit dont take it personally...but couldnt u be doin something more productive with ur life rite now? i mean instead of bein on the net where there's all these "worldly people" u could be reading the bible instead...no?

I went to my prom, and I had graduated early from high school, so it really was my last chance to see some of these people. They serve dinner and lots of people talk at the table instead of dance. So it's not like you are forced to do bad things there. But I also see why a lot of parents are concerned...we have all seen or heard of the movie "American Pie" and people think that's what all us kids are up to our senior year. I can tell you from personal experience...that is not what I was up to at all. But if your parents think that there is a chance that you could get into a bad situation...respect them. If you are responsible and autonomous enough to act like a Christian both during and AFTER the prom...Then go and see your friends one last time. The verse where David danced in front of the Lord...doesn't quite apply to a bunch of high school seniors shakin it to the latest club jam.
So you guys say its ok as long as you dont do anything bad ..... ........

I don’t think going to the prom is a sin… there are worldly people everywhere u go…. whether it be to school, the park, movies, restaurants, the beach… even church... it’s ALL about what u do there… I mean… I went to my after prom, which was just this huge party where they had games and prizes and what not, and it was fun.. I don’t regret going to it. But whatever u do… don’t go against ur conscience. You know what’s right and what’s wrong and whether everybody is doing it or not makes no difference… u will be held accountable for ur sins and what u were taught… If u don’t think that’s a place u need to be at… then maybe it’s best u don’t go…

i had this same conversation. i am a Junior in High School, and i want to go to prom this yr and next yr but other ppls thinks it is a sin. it is not that i am going there to do anything bad. mostly it's only hanging out wtih your friends since we will not see them again.. so i think it's perfectly fine to go. thats my opinoin.

i think that romos are not as open minded as we would want them to be. i mean they dont look at all the aspects of a matter and they only give you reasons to defend their point. i'm been told by so many people not to go to prom this year but all my friends are going. its not like i will drink and than drive home... if you know your limits, than its all good. right?

I dont think its really a sin to go to a prom. As long as you dont get drunk (im sure people spike the punch or whatever) or start dancing inappropriately, then its alright.
Personally I dont go to mine because for me personally, I dont feel comfortable in that envornoment and its not somewhere I want to be. But I dont see anything wrong with it.

I have been to 3 school dances already, and I haven't had any problem's with either. Noone spiked the punch, because it was monitored by adults, the dancing wasn't all that bad either. I found it really fun acutally. But anyway, I think that going to prom (like everyone else said) is to have one last dance or one last time to see everyone before they graduate and go off to college. And no your not going to go to hell if you go, I would say go have fun, just don't get drunk. lol.

ive been rather confused myself on this topic..
but..i think that its not that big of a deal. i mean come on..what are u really gonna do? eat, talk, possibly dance..if you can..HA!
i mean if ur really not strong when it comes to temptations..maybe you shouldnt..you could be tempted to do what...well what them crazy kids in movies do after prom [HA!].
it all depends on what you believe.
if yout hink youd regret going to prom..then dont go.

What will it hurt to go to it for one night in your life....
i went to my prom and my brother did not, and we were in the same class.... at least i can say that i went and thats that... I am not better than him for it, so its no big deal.
bottom line: the rest of your life you can say you went, or if you dont, you can say that you didnt!

Depends on what you do. I went to my senior prom and I just kind of sat there and ate the meal. No dancing for me :D Prom, in the end, was a big waste of time and money. Not sure how all high schools are, but had a 'lock-in' with our teachers present in which we played games, won prizes, etc. THAT was more worthwhile than going to a dumb dance. Prom was such a huge deal in high school, never saw why people were so obessed with it.
True, no one has to go. There are a lot of other things you can do as a senior. I knew some friends who didn't go to prom, instead the bunch of them went out for bowling and pizza... I should of gone :(
anyway, some proms are well supervised...some aren't. Christian teens should know better, but than again, look what happens. Not sure what I would do if I ever had a kid. I guess I would let them go to their prom, but not for the entire night. She or he will have a curfew :rules:

You see, a christian can't be happy in a nonchristian enviorment. And about the problems that rise during prom we all know...what happens... I once went to a "bancket" in Romania. My professor told me and another penti brother that we will go and sing a song or do something we want to do from the christian point of view. Well we went and we sang a few songs (of course very hard bc nobody else sang and we had no instruments) and then remained for the rest of the banker. Ok I never saw my classroom dance and do all that, and I was so disgussed by what I saw that I said I will never go to one of those again. And is still in my mind today.
I recomend for christians to get together with the other graduates from your church and have a graduation party. That is what we do at our church evry year. We have good food, christian music, presents for the graduates.... we pray and I feel good. but that it's just me :(

You have valid points. Yeah, I didn't have a lot of fun and I do understand what you are saying. I wasn't very active in my church as a teen for various reasons.
Anywho, your recommendation is a good one, or have a small graduation with some of your friends at your home with parents chaperoning. Of course, part of the reason to go to prom, is to see people you don't normally talk with I suppose. But again, there are a lot of opportunities for that when you're a senior.

i totally agree with you, calinbisou; i mean it does say in the Bible to only dance for God, so even IF we dance we should only do it for God, and not for everybody to see how good we are at it during our prom or some kind of other parties...everything we do should be only for God!!!!!

well lets see here...since my freshman year ive stopped going to any school dance, especially Homecoming, because its just another excuse for all the guys on the football team to pick up chicks :sly: ...plus if anyone knew anything about my school, theyd know to stay clear from the dances here because you can never tell the difference from actually "dancing" and, ahem...doing dirty things with your clothes on :twak:
but yes im going to my prom this year....after much pushing and shoving from some friends, because at first i didnt want to go at all....but i think it can be both a good and a bad thing...if you go there with the idea in your head that youre going to get drunk and score some...then going to prom may not be your only problem :tut:
im going as a final farelywell to my friends, and my school...and i think people take it too seriously when it comes to it being a sin or not...it really depends on whether you make the right decisions...because if you people think that the whole idea of prom itself is a sin...then you also might consider whether you should even be going to the movies, the mall, a party, the grocery store...etc :baby: :whip:
...plus my date promised me that he'd teach me how to salsa dance....who would wanna pass up that?? :D

i honestly think prom's no big deal... there's sin anywhere u go... it's whether ur gonna give in that will make a difference....

You are right there is sin anywhere you go, but the degree of temptation depends on your surroundings. For example if a person was addicted to alcohol and now became a christian, do where do you think he has a grater chance of falling and dringking again?:
1.at home where he has no acohol because he threw everything out
2. at church
3. at a bar where he just went to drink a cocke, but he wants to talk with his friends a litte
It seems like the third option is the one with the gratest likelyhood.
My point is, even know you are a christian, don't put yourself in the position of being tempted as to go over your power.
You know I have my standards and I will no have a relationship before or outside marriage, but in order to be succesful I got to exclude everything that can put me in that possition. So one rule is, never be with a girl in house alone. Is that simple.
Well may be some of you guys disagree, but that is just my opinion :0
May be some of you think you are holier than David, stronger than Samson and wiser than Solomon who all fell because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time...... do you see a correlation ?? :wall:
well she kinda makes a good point cuz no matter where u are...things can happen. ya the atmosphere is diff at the prom...but there's always people doin some pretty nasty stuff no matter where u go. its not like ur gonna close ur eyes and pretend its not there. if u go for a walk...u mite come across doin the nasty on the street...same with a grocery store and the movies fits rite in there. its not like people r gonna strip and have sex on the dance floor...its most likely supervised...its just a matter of how far u choose to go. there's alot of things we do that arent to worship God...like when we sing...do we always sing for God? i dont think so. so how is that any different from dancing? i get that there are certain dances that are "dirty" but again u just gotta know rite from wrong. and dance the way u think is most appropriate. dance so u wont think back and think u did something wrong.

the idea of going to the prom is not wrong... not a sin in other words...
but what you do while you are there is what determines the sin... which is true anywhere you go.
a person can walk to the prom and hang out with his/her friends as many youngsters have done. its an oppurtunity to dress nice, look nice, ect. but if you think lu****l thoughts, if you dance in a seductive manner that usually comes with lu****l thoughts and well if you have sex... then of course you've sinned. and that list can go on. if you lie, cheat, steal, get angry and curse your neighbor at the prom, then you are sinning.
but thats only if do those things while you are there. for example, a person can go to church and still commit the same sins. for example, a young man can go to church and think lu****l thoughts of the girl in choir. ok hope this all makes sense. wherever you go, be an example, a light to those around you.

You know I have my standards and I will no have a sexual relationship before or outside marriage, but in order to be succesful I got to exclude everything that can put me in that possition. So one rule is, never be with a girl in house alone. Is that simple.
Well may be some of you guys disagree, but that is just my opinion :0
May be some of you think you are holier than David, stronger than Samson and wiser than Solomon who all fell because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time...... do you see a correlation ??

for your information...yes i am pretty confident that id be making the right decisions in this situation...its not the only time id be faced with these kinds of things :sly:
Interesting :wow:
David was a man after God's heart, one of the holy man of the Bible, yet he made the wrong decision when he was in the wrong palce...
Samson the strongest man, made the wrong decision when he was in the wrong place .....
Solomon the wisest man that lived, made the wrong decision when he was in the wrong place....
I made many wrong decisions when I was in the wrong place .. :(
I hope you will be stronger ... God give you power.

Please, tell us more about what else happens at a prom, other than the dirty dancing that you described. :D

i say if you think that you will be tempted at prom, then confront your demons and be a conqueror.....
if dancing is your weakness, go and dont dance, because then you know you can handle a situation where you are tempted....
i go to bars with my friends, but i dont drink...... now whenever i go, my friends know, and i know that i dont need to drink!

well lets see here...since my freshman year ive stopped going to any school dance, especially Homecoming, because its just another excuse for all the guys on the football team to pick up chicks :sly: ...plus if anyone knew anything about my school, theyd know to stay clear from the dances here because you can never tell the difference from actually "dancing" and, ahem...doing dirty things with your clothes on :twak:
but yes im going to my prom this year....after much pushing and shoving from some friends, because at first i didnt want to go at all....but i think it can be both a good and a bad thing...if you go there with the idea in your head that youre going to get drunk and score some...then going to prom may not be your only problem :tut:
im going as a final farelywell to my friends, and my school...and i think people take it too seriously when it comes to it being a sin or not...it really depends on whether you make the right decisions...because if you people think that the whole idea of prom itself is a sin...then you also might consider whether you should even be going to the movies, the mall, a party, the grocery store...etc :baby: :whip: ...plus my date promised me that he'd teach me how to salsa dance....who would wanna pass up that?? :D
heck yes! that is so true! sheesh....some people need to just chill out....
.....i went to my senior prom and i had a blast! it was just me, my cousin and some good friends. it was a great way to end the school year.
so ur gonna learn how to salsa eh alina??? SWEET!

I've heard it from my parents and other romanian adults that prom is not the place for a christian teenager to go. Its not a good atmosphere and you should never put yourself in that kind of place. But they have never really explained why its not ok. I just want to hear what others have to say about it. Tell me what u think

if you go to the prom, what is the reason that you are going for?
if you are going to the prom to praise God then yea, go ahead, but i doubt anybody goes for that reason
just ask yourself this question, is God going to be where i'm going? will He be watching over me in that place? you decide!
Liza im gonna pick on u a bit dont take it personally...but couldnt u be doin something more productive with ur life rite now? i mean instead of bein on the net where there's all these "worldly people" u could be reading the bible instead...no?
PAH!...stop picking on Liza...the question is ...what are YOU doing here instead of reading the bible or something....eh...???
Ok...everyone at my school is talking about going to the prom and it seems just like i'm the only one who isn't going. i've heard the comments that they made about going to prom. most of them plan to go there already drunk and all they said was they were going to get ****ed up (excuse the expression that's what they said exactly). it's so horrible to go to a meeting place where people like that meet. why would you want to go there anyways? to get wasted? and you know those after parties that everyone has?...what if you get invited to go there? it's going to be hard to say no, hey i have many friends that do those kinds of things, i should go too b.c i can resist. but guess what, i would never go to those parties.
remember in the bible when jesus threw everything down from the tables, etc. in the temple? it's exactly like that, your body is like that temple, why would you want to invite cheaters (not literally speaking) into your heart? and i know someone is going to ask me if it's wrong to go to chili's or something. it's not, and it's not anything close to going to the prom, so don't push it! :)
ps. and trust me, i'm not a narrow-minded person at all and this is what i think. just 'cuz everyone else is doing it, why should you? why should you care what they're gonna think if you simply say 'no i'm not going to the prom.' just as Sum1 said earlier, you're prob. never going to see them ever again, so who cares?

Okay... so, I read this entire thing and to tell you all the truth (you especially, SaintJoe) there is no great reason NOT to go to the prom other than personal preference. The only defense on not going was that by those who fall upon the "strawman" debating technique. Those who don't understand what that is... it's when you divert the entire attention on some little aspect, hoping for the person to fall over at that point. Great way to get a person flustered at a debating tourny or anything (See Election 2004)... now, those who have no intention to go will not listen to my statements but those who want to know or try to decide to go or not to go (see my title) then please, go on and read, go on and oppionate.
Those who have gone to any social event (at my school) can name every risque activity that has gone on, before, during, and after the event (not just the Prom but any other function... go figure, the big game too, oh, and as mentioned, homecoming (the fall prom)) but rarely do they dwell on the good stuff that went on (great laughs, great food, greater freinds). Why? It's odd, eh? So much good stuff went on, right? And only about... what, 1, 2 or maybe, if you're unlucky, 3 events happened? BECAUSE WE'RE TEENS! Geez guys. And it doesn't help that we're Romanian! We loooooooove to gossip, and I've seen that romo teens love to do as much as any other. Not just teens gossip about any 'exciting' thing that happened somewhere... please! We only hear about this events and whatnot because it's what drives us. Isn't it? How many of you out there just talk about the positive stuff on what you did? Misery loves company so we talk about the saddest thing that has happened to us that day or the most outstanding (can be sad or funny). I think people "getting down 'with it'" is pretty outstanding in most people's book.
Oh, and American Pie is over exaggerated. They wanted ratings, duh. Go for whatever will shock the audience... why? They'll REMEMBER it.
Romo parents over here are mostly either first generation or came here by the plane over the pond. Am I right? How many of them went to the prom during Communist Romania? Or went to an American prom?
Laura! Hey. Remember who Jesus hang out with? He didn't hang out with all the greatest people in the world.. why? To be an example... Why can't we as Christian Youth go to the prom and be the beacon at the party? Are we too timid? Are we too afraid to turn our "pagan" freinds from their dark ways? I should hope not!

I went to mine, it was so much fun. I think i behaved myself pretty good. But its very easy to get tempted into doing stupid things. And we've probably all heard the prom stereotype and people losing their virginity etc. So if you go, be a light. Its a good place to prove that your not like the rest by your actions. Make sure your date isn't a sleeze-ball, try going with a bunch of your girlfriends to make it even safer. Ask God about it too. But you should try to go with a group of friends that won't drag you down. Its fun to go just for the pictures, dressing up, making it an eventful day, dinner (My group reserved out a really nice restaurant downtown!! SO FUN!) And at the dance you can just go say hi and leave while they're all busy grinding on the dance floor :lol2:

Hmmm... this is a rather interesting response.
A. One does not need to attend a prom to be tempted to do stupid things. One can visit/attend a "Christian" site such as this and be tempted to do some rather stupid things. I have personally witnessed this.:whip:
B. You speak of the stereotyping that is given when people speak about proms, and you end your comment with a prom stereotype. How strange. :wall:

I go to a christian school and mine we have ours next week. This may not even help you, but hey, worth a try. Go to the prom, take pictures, laugh and smile and eat good food. You can slow dance, but maybe that would be the onli best thing to do. The reason being is because usualy when u get into the dancing *spirit* u forget and begin to say *its not like im doin a bad thing anyway*. I think maybe going would be a good thing for u. Maybe ppl will see u and see how u r different and staying away from the wrong temptations....like one says...maybe u will be a light.

ok.. i usually dont listen to non-chrisitan music.. but i got to admit that i do once in a while. and people in thiese posts have been saying that the music at prom doesnt glorify God. and i agree, but isnt it the same as just listenening to non christian music by yourself?
i went to prom and had an awesome time. i danced and i dont think anything bad of it because i was with a chrisitian group. grinding is NOT the only kind of dancing out there.. so i guess deciding whether to attend prom or not depends on the person and whether you think its a sin or not. but if you think youd feel bad about going, i dont think you should. just pray about it :)

what the heck is so significant about prom, you people talk as if it's a breeding ground for mortal sin.
you go, you go..you dont, you dont. it's as simple as that....youre surrounded by sin everywhere you go...do you all seriously think the act of goig to prom is going to land you on God's hit list...now if you have some major problem with containing yourself when it comes to being tempted to do bad things....then prom should be the least of your worries...if thats the case then i suggest you lock yourself in your room and never come out :sly:

i think prom sucks cause its a waste of money, for that much money, you could go somewhere else with all your friends or whatever, and do alot more with that money.
Prom is just an expensive dance with expensive pictures,
i can dance anywhere for free, and pictures are easy enough to get for REALLY cheap.
save the money and go out to eat and catch a movie or something, ALOT better deal in my opinion.

I went to my school formal at the end of year 12. I went to a private christian school so there wasn't all the unchristian music thing happening and they didn't have dancing until the very end but i left before it cause i don't see the point to dancing. We were a small school and it was a closed formal (you weren't allowed to bring anyone from outside the school or from another grade) so no one really had dates. And i was lucky with the money bit of it cause i didn't have to pay. So really i just went to eat and have fun with my friends that i had gotten to know so well over my high school years cause we always had small classes. But if i had gone to a public school i definitely wouldn't have gone...or even thought about going.

um... do you believe Jesus is gonna be at the mall when you go...
do you believe Jesus is going to be at your friends house when you visit...
do you believe Jesus is going to be at school when you go to school...
if you have answered yes to any of these questions, then the answer is yes to the quoted question. if you have answered no, then your answer is no.
in either case, i believe i've made a good point here... what do you all say :lol2:
My answer to all of those are YES... but to prom NO.... how???
I don't think God's sits with u in the movie theathre and watches with you.... nor at the prom when everyone is dancing and the last thing on their minds is God......
I usually pray when I start my car to go somewhere that God watches over me wherever I'm going......
so if I go to the mall, Jesus is with me
if I visit a friend, Jesus is with me,
if I go to school, Jesus is with me.
now if I go get drunk.... at a bar or club, Jesus is not there with me...... or dancing at the prom...
get it???

Great... so, you think that God leaves our side when we are at our weakest, or in a state of temptation? Wow! What a wonderful God you have pictured for us. Thank goodness some of us know that our God is a better God than that.
Jesus should be with you all the time. Do you think He simply ignores you if you attend some function other than what you have listed? Rubbish! :tut:

but if you know something is wrong.... and still do it, then how do you think Jesus feels about it?

well apparently from this posting... you insecurity shows everyone else otherwise about how you feel about yourself... :D
first you state that Jesus is not where you sin... not where you get drunk or where you dance... yet in your next posting... you state that He is, but then you ask us how do we think Jesus feels about us sinning...
but you realize that how Jesus feels about us sinning has nothing to do with whether he is present or not.
finally, its sad how you make such random false generalizations about each of the locations.
prom = dancing = sin
bar = drunkeness = sin
but apparently
mall = ok
friends house = ok
school = ok
here let me give you a better picture
mall = location where so many sex acts take place within the walls of the building = place where girls and guys hook up for lu****l reasons = place where teens aren't supervised by parents so they can basically do drugs or anything else bad you can think of = sin
friends house = place where you can see porn videos = if friend is a girl, place where the two of you can be involved in sexual acts = and lets not forget the drugs = oh and great place to gossip = sin
and finally school = #1 place where teens either take drugs, take part in sexual activity, show hatred, share gossip, and pretty much every sinful activity found in galations 5 :19 to the end...
so let me ask you again oh so smart one... is Jesus present at those places. by now i hope you have realized that a location does not determine the sin. a location is simply a location. the sin occurs when one individual commits an act that is sinful. but that does not make the location sinful. a bar is synonimous with drunkeness. but that does that mean everyone who walks into a bar is going to get drunk?
a prom might have dancing but there is nothing wrong with dancing. its only when you dance and it becomes lu****l. a prom has non christian music. so does elevators, malls and any other locations where they play music in the background. do you cover your ears when you go places where you hear music...? the music issue can be found in another thread as to what really defines christian or non christian music. anything else wrong with prom... besides that fact that people waste their money (once again... totally dependant upon who's spending the money and why but that doesn't mean they are wasting their money).
eh... at this point you might want to erase your posting that i have quoted... :whip:

Personally, I just asked myself the question, would Jesus go to prom? And I just felt that His Holy Spirit dwelling in me didn't think he would, so I didn't go. Others if they go, don't feel bad or guilty and I don't condemn them for going, but if I had went, I would've felt guilty and horrible. I guess it all just depends on the Holy Spirit's presence in our lives and most defnitely obeying our parents. ANd remember, we have to be IN the world, but not OF the world.

i agree with this, however, i dont think its the Spirit in you that dictates your decision of going to prom or not. I believe its the way you were brought up. And you concsious dictates that. Your parents taught you not to go to prom. So for you, your conscience dictates you not going cus you want to listen to Your parents. And this way, its a good thing you didnt Go, cus the bible says in Romans 14, that anything you do without faith (or with doubt) is sin. So i applaud you for that. I too didnt go cus my parents brought me up to think it was bad. although i had this nice girl named summer, sooooo cute! she wanted to go with me, oh and this girl elizabeth. had a tongue ring. AHHHHHHH. but i didnt go :( :( i so regret it :lol2:

Ahhh... I figured you had that traditional Romanian view of the movie theatres... and yes, I state Romanian view, because they are the only ones I have spoken to with this sort of illogical thinking.
Going to the movies is a sin, but watching movies at home is a-okay. :screwy:
Well, I simply like the logical exceptions that are made here. With this type of thinking, one could say that dancing at proms are a sin, but dancing at home is a-okay (which some people have already posted). :wall:
So, I can see that some members find a certain act as being a sin... ONLY if this particular act occurs at certain places, otherwise, there are exceptions to these "rules of sins".

i went to my prom last friday and i had an AWESOME time... it was soo much fun!!!!! i went with a girl friend of mine since we both had no dates.... we had more fun anyway.... all us girls just danced together all night, it was soo great
and i didnt go to the after party... cuz it was raining and the party was outisde.... we went to mcdonalds instead and got ice cream... it was a great nite....

i agree with this, "dont wear a hat to church" yet its ok to wear a hat outside of Church? why? is it because God is stricter inside a building? last time i checked, we were the Church, and where we went, was a place of meeting. So instead of saying "dont wear a hat in Church", it should be said as, "church, dont wear a hat in the building" 2 face Christians. God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, regardless if you're in a building with four walls, or outside in your house with Four Walls. God doesnt automatically loosens up a tad smidget when you leave the building. As If!

PLAIN waste of time... they could've made a 'Passion of the Christ 2' instead..... :)Hmmm... interesting. If you didn't watch this movie (Napolean Dynamite) in the theatres, where exactly did you watch it, since you didn't rent it? :sly:
Why is it that you do not attend the theatres, but you rent and watch movies at home? :sly: Could it be the reason that you were raised and taught that movie theatres are a bad place where bad things happen? :wall:
if unchristians see you doing what they do (worldly things), then they think 'why should I become christian, the christians do everything I do, so why should I become one?'I seriously think that going to the movies is a waste of time when you could rent movies... I don't think that we, as christians, should go. we go and watch all the 'murdarii din lumea aceata' when at home, you could at least fast forward the bad parts
Ohhh... could it possibly be that you think going to the movies would be a "worldly" thing, and that you feel more comfortable doing this worldly thing at home, out of the sight of others, so that you are not judged as a "christian" by non-christians? Ahhh... the safety certain people feel at home, without others judging them.

i totally agree with you on the hypocrasy, i mean honestly now guys! c'mon..you say we can't in one place and we can in another..that's like saying you can't swear in church because it's holy but you can swear anywhere else because the world is not holy and it doesn't matter as long as it's not in a church, God won't catch you and see you! OMG! GOD IS EVERYWHERE! I hate the romanian hypocrasy, personally i haven't seen it in most other cultures other than ours...not this bad at least..I don't attend a romanian church anymore because of the hypocrasy! I go to an american church, where yeah i love it...so far i haven't found one thing my pastor has said that is hypocritical. He says worship the Lord wherever, because we will never be able to escape from Him becasue he is everywhere. He also said since we ACCEPTED him in our lives he is with us, he sees what we eat, breath, drink, talk, and what we listen too.
I was raised to believe that dancing, putting on makeup, wearing jewelry (i have my ears pierced woop dee doo!) wearing skirts above the knees (not extremely mini's!) is fine! You can do all this stuff and still worship the LORD PEOPLE! My makeup will not get in the way of my eyes of seeing when i worship! my earrings will not be so heavy as to bring me down!
I HAVE BEEN TO 9TH GRADE CRUISE, HOMECOMING AND TOLO! and i will go to the rest of the dances! NOT BECAUSE I GO THERE TO "DEFY" GOD, BUT I GO THERE BECAUSE I KNOW HE KNOWS WHERE I AM! HE knows what i am doing! he "always" knows! I have been asked to prom! I said no..not because i didn't like the guy (he is a good friend) but because i want to wait till i'm a senior to go to prom! i want to keep it special...
MAYBE DANCING is who i am...my friend dances for songs at her church, it's apart of who she is and how she worships the Lord! NOONE can change that! :wall:

Whats the difference between attending a wedding, where there are bound to be some 'un-Christian' invited, and formal occasions as such? It's the perfect place to shine your light, I think. Show everyone there's something different about you, that you're not like the rest of them.
All this poo on rules and regulations is complete rubbish. In fact, from tonight onwards, I'm going to pray that God zaps the biggest cinema imaginable into Heaven. :D And football stadiums too. -Imagine that... a game of football with the all time stars.. I'd want to be on Sampson's team. :D
he was being sarcastic. He was saying thats how the romanians do things these days. Read his comments again, but with sarcasm. Thats hypocrisy for sure. SJ knows that and he's simply speaking sarcasm. :bfro:

100% agree with Jessy. now thats a smart comment! She's using, whats that thing called that alot of us forget to use sometimes, oh yah, she's using common sense :bfro:
you guys are so funny... you dont have to go to the after parties... thats totally up to you... what people do after prom is their problem... but during prom there are limits to what people can do... there are teachers and parents who are asled to go and watch over... they dont serve alchohol... i think prom is ok as long as you're smart and dont do anything stupid... go to prom... have a good time... but be careful who you go with

I think it is something that we should ask God if He likes us to go and do what the people from lume do. My experience with my prom was something like this. I want it to go very bad. Last time with my colegs and so on..fun fun fun. My mom told me something like this(by the way parents know how to make you change your mind (not make us guilty or something but still)and they know better):"You are mature enough to know what is good and wrong. I don't think you should go. That is not a place where you can make people see God throu you. Because you will make things that are not for His pleasure. You shouldn't be where God is not. You shouldn't do something that doesn't lift up or make you fell better, we all slip sometimes." This was her saying and I had in my heart something that made me think. I was very upset and against her big time in what she said specially when she said something from the Bible that touched my heart and I got mad on her, because she always has the answer (hahaha). And I said to her I will go, and I realy don't care. I was so upset because I knew if I will disobey her I will get in trouble with my dad,and it was against God (obey your parents). I went in my room and prayed and I said to God: 'God this is it I am tired of them telling me what to do, I always listen to them but I really want to go and have fun. It is not fair! Why me! Why I have to be the good christian and fell like an outcast?.If this is your will for me not to go Speak to me exactly that you spoke throu my mom's mouth and I wil listen and not go."
I opend the Bible after I prayed (don't considered it a ghicire or something like that -that was for me the best thing to do/tha best thing that I thought of in that situation). I took my BIble and opened it exactly at the verses de unde mi-a vb mama. And plus God spoke to my heart that if I obey her (as my parent) and Him as God, He will bless me like I never thought of it. I asked Him to give me peace and putere to go throu this. He did but let me tell you that the diavolul a mai venit prin prietenii mei after I promised my mom and God that I will not go. (so be carefull diavolul vine atunci la tine si vrea sa iti ia binecuvantarea care te asteapta- don't let him do that). After a week or so from my school my principle came to me and said that because I was a very good student and with good grades I was choosen to go in a trip for 2 weeks in Germany (youth camp with kids all over the earth -but only the best ones) and I was choosen by the Mayor that wanted to pay for me for everything to be able to go, I didn't had to spend my money or my parents money...nothing.. he payed for me, everything. I asked how come me from so many schools and very good kids and he said that this is what conducerea scolii a ales and no comment on that.He even said it is a blessing, trust me on that.
I started crying and thanking God for this. It was worthed for me to leave the world and obey my parents and my God to get that blessing. I had a great time. I met kids my age from Marrocco, India, Italia, England and so on and I could talk about my God to them too.
This is my story and experience with THE PROM. God is great but you have to decide. He lets you decide He never decides for you. What you will choose? Even you don't see it then, and you are frustrade an upset. Can you trust Him?
God speaks in deifferenr ways to us. So every experinece it is a personal one but doesn't mean that it will happend to you. You jsut have to listen to Him and to His voice! Do you hear His voice?

personally...I would've attended my prom...but I mainly didn't go cause the one person who I would've have probably attended it with...wasn't able to go...so no worries...I do not rgret going...nor did I care SO much to go...anywho...it's up to you....if you know u can resist all the stupid temptations that come with attending Prom...it's up to you. Can you trust yourself...plus know that you can trust those peers aroun you as well...well take care and God Bless...this is all I have to say...there are many pros and cons to it, now go with your own conviction.

Dude, i got in so many arguments with my parents and uncle (i still dont understand why my uncle cares so much) about this. It's just sad, cuz these romos think they're all that and that they are the most christian race....which is not true. As for going to the movies, I think its not a sin, ive seen plenty of movies in theaters and my parents dont care (but my aunts and uncles do care, i still dont know why)

Prom's are boring. Well mine was. And not everybody gets wasted and engages in sexual activities. Only those with no morals. After the prom I went to Taco Bell, no booze or booty there. Then back home. Nothing special. I know such a spender I am. Well prom's aren't bad. Just a waste of time and money. But if you're into such things I guess it wouldn't be.
God Bless.

I dont see anything wrong with going as long as your not going with the intentions of doing something you know you already shouldnt do.

I personally don't see anything wrong with going to prom. It's what you do at prom that could be a problem. But if you go just to hang out with friends, eat some food, drink some punch, whatever, then there is nothing wrong with it. I personally saw no point in going to prom, but all power to the people who do go.
If you want to go, why not? The questions is: will you be obedient to your mom in case she won't let you go?
And...the decision you have to take it yourself. We can only give you adivices.
If you're going there, you have to ask yourself: am I ready to stay on my beliefs no matter what? If you can, go for it!

that great, but all your thoughts are just opinions without any biblical backup to stating why you believe what you believe. Perhaps this can help you out...
Ecclesiastes 3: 1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
Go have fun! :bfro: hahahahahhahaha :lol2:

i missed my prom :)
but it wasnt such a loss..
i had planned to go, but came to the conclusion
that, it would be a waste of time..
its a personal decision, for you to go.. or not to
no one should condemn you for it..
might as well, shun us all to iad for driving cars.. right?

i believe that your right but the truth being is then why are we all called christians and go to church. if you think about it us as christians, your father dosen't like that. right??? so now if you think about it, if we disobay your father in heaven then when it comes for us to be introuble he will never help us right? the bible says the different things we are not allowed to do right and what happenes if we still do them?
at first i said that i was going to go no matter what and what not, and i argued with my mom and did all these things and at the end i figured it out that it wasn't worth it. because no matter where i was and what i was doing i would never be happy or have fun because there would always be a whisper in my ear saying that i don't belong there.

mm, prom... is over-rated . sry, dar in all honesty prom is a just a waste of time and money -and good useful brain cells for those who choose to go to the 'after party' (drink and what not). i had a date to prom, planned on goin and all, dar i decided not to. alot of Christians still do, yet that does not make them any bigger of a sinner than I ("one sin is all sin" --we all fall short in other ways).. but in the way I see it, if you have the commen sense to know better (that its not ur place) why not use it? it was my choice, and now Im glad i did it. I dont regret really. prom didnt make or break my highschool career so I was cool with it.

i think going to prom is fine unless you go to like the before and after parties where they get wasted and do bad stuff..and other un christian things. prom is cool people but what romo parent would let there kid go and dance with a girl or guy i know not mine unless if i snuck out or something

What's wrong with u people?
It's OK to go to PROMS? No way-bros and sisters, no way.
The NO option shouldn't even be in the poll.
It's NOT "ok" to go to PRoms.
That's like going to clubs.
As God's children we need to separated from the world.
How are we different from the rest of world if we attend proms and parties and clubs where there's drinking, sex (before marriage which is a big sin), drugs, etc..
It's NOT ok at all go to proms.
Instead of going to the prom go visit a sick person, help out a homeless or poor with those money instead, or at least stay home and read the Bible and pray.
Read Psalms 1 Verse 1.
Peace!

Oy-vey. This debate still going on? My goodness. I think we have established that some people disagree with the idea and some people think it's fine. Like me for example. I don't see a problem with dances, jewelery or make-up.
By the way, I see prom as a way of helping people learn more about God, you can make it into that easily. Think of this, would Jesus be hanging out with people that already no him, NO, he would be hanging out with the lowest of the low.
Jesus hung out with fishermen, the people that smelled. He hung out with prostitutes, the sinful. He hung out with demon possed people, the needy. Go to people that need your help, get out of your comfort zones guys.

None of us are Jesus.
And I doubt one person alone unless he/she received a divine message to immerse themselves in a unholy environment.
The only way I would see the idea of going into such an environment would be with a group of firm believers.
