I for one LOVED my sunday school time, had a lot of fun there. im sure its the same with a lot of you guys here.
so this thread is here to share your favourite memories concerning sunday school.
you can bring up anything: stories, songs, poems, events, games, funny stuff, etc.

ill start this off: so my sunday school teachers used to tell us Bible stories such as the life of Joseph,Esther, etc.,and they used figures made of scai (dont know the english word, sorry) and reconstruited the stories on a special board on which they put this figures of the carachters and places.
they had a very exciting way of telling those stories, i just loved listening to them

we also played games, like making some groups, and then they said a place in the Bible (book, chapter and ver) and we had to find the verses.
the group that found the vers first, got a point, and in the end the group with the most points has won.
i remember having been once the only girl in my group and it was me who made all the points for my group. the teacher said: "Guys, be glad that you have a girl there, otherwise..." lol :p:

GOD HAS BEEN SUMMONED TO APPEAR IN COURT

Trim and physically fit at 70 years old, his hair and beard whitened by time, the man with a gentle face moved at a steady pace. He looked like a loving grandfather on his way to bring a present to his grandchildren. At least, that's what anyone would think seeing him walk down the streets of the city, with his dark suit, a leather briefcase in his right hand.

But the truth is different. The man didn't have a present for anyone. His briefcase hid a bomb-that is, a "bomb" in the form of the news he was carrying. It was news that would shake public opinion around the world and stir up controversy. As the news spread, a lot of people thought the old fellow was crazy. Others believed that he was engaged in an exercise of self promotion. At any rate, Ernie Chambers, independent state senator in Nebraska, was known as an old, argumentative, and irreverent politician.

On that morning of September 14, 2007, senator Chambers went into the Douglas County courthouse and filed a lawsuit against God. He demanded that God stop causing so much terror in the world.

In the petition that he filed the Afro-American attorney who had never practiced law accused God of causing "fearsome floods, egregious earthquakes, horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes, pestilential plagues, ferocious famines, devastating droughts, genocidal wars, birth defects and the like." He said the Deity was responsible for "calamitous catastrophes resulting in the wide-spread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants including innocent babes, infants, children, the aged and infirm without mercy or distinction," and he asked the court for an injunction ordering God to cease and desist.

Read about it to: http://www.ketv.com/news/14133442/detail.html

I would like to know your opinion about that case.

But say a prayer
Pray for the other ones
At Christmastime it's hard, but when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging
chimes of doom
Well, tonight thank God it's them instead of you

And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
(Oooh) Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow

(Here's to you) raise a glass for everyone
Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again

i guess you all know this song. now, when i searched for the lyrics after listening to it, i realized that i got something wrong there:
i got:

"Well, tonight thank God He's there instead of you"

instead of:

"Well, tonight thank God it's them instead of you"

I thought they were reffering in a sarcastic way, like "at least God is there to look after them instead of you if you are too occupied with your own life..."

it reminded me of what someone once said: "In our prayers we send God to look after the sick and weak ones and those who need help, but we forget that that´s actually our duty..."
we are the body of Christ and we are meant to act like that: being His hand that feeds the hungry, His feet that seeks the lost, His voice that gives hope to the desperated, and so on...

He is the One Who works all things out, but we are the instruments He wants to use for that. We ask for His help in prayer and thats good, but we cant expect Him to do all the work He expects US to acomplish. He is the One Who gives the comands, not us (as we tend to comand Him so often: "please do this and that and this...because i dont want to...")

the real lyrics in this part also spoke to me: saying that its them INSTEAD OF ME shows that we all are the same and that such a hard life could have hit everyone. it was like "Be thankful that you arent living like them because you arent better than them, and remember them to be there for them"

"I am the wretch the song refers to."

~Todd Friel

In the introduction to his book, “Hard to Believe – The High Cost and Infinite Value of Following Jesus,” John MacArthur writes, “The world is filled with millions of people who think they are headed for heaven – but they are deadly wrong. . . .what is especially sad, is that many of those people sit in evangelical churches misinformed!”

I agree with MacArthur.

So what is the "misinformation?"

The misinformation is nothing less that a complete misinterpretation of the Gospel.

The message of most Christian concerts, youth events, women’s conferences, men’s rallies, etc., and seeker-sensitive churches is “Jesus loves you! Jesus will free you from all your pain! Come to Jesus now!”

It’s a distorted message and a message that advances the thought that being a Christian is easy and freeing and fun. It’s called easy believe’ism, and it is anything but biblical! And it only touches the very surface of True Gospel of Salvation.

Consider how Jesus approached personal evangelism when he walked on earth as a man. Jesus did not say to people, “Pray this simple prayer” or “Just make a decision to follow Me.”

Not at all.

Jesus confronted people with the reality of their own sin. (Consider, for example, the woman at the well in John Chapter 4.)

Those who “accepted” Jesus were truly convicted of their sin and they repented. Those who refused Jesus rejected the fact that they were sinful. Instead they boasted and bragged of their own righteousness. (See, for example, the account of Jesus and the rich young ruler in Mark 10:17-22)

Do you suppose if the rich young ruler in Mark Chapter 10 had simply been told to repeat a simple prayer of salvation, he would have done so? And would he have walked away counting himself as saved?

Maybe. . .
But would he have really be saved?
Where has our culture gone wrong that we think we can do this very thing?

I don’t think we can identify the exact point that we began drifting from the Truth, but . . .

Robert Schuller made one of the most absurd and anti-Gospel statements ever in his 1982 book “Self Esteem: The New Reformation” when he wrote (on page 98), “Once a person believes he is an unworthy sinner, it is doubtful if he can really honestly accept the saving grace God offers in Jesus Christ.”

Absurd!
. . . this is where the drifting went terribly bad.

So . . . (see if I understand this. . . ) if you want to be saved according to this new reformation of self esteem, you cannot believe yourself to be an unworthy sinner? And to follow the logic further, there really is no reason at all for Christ’s death on the Cross. Right?

Again: Absurd!

. . . The very idea erases the entire story of redemption beginning in Genesis and culminating in Revelation! To do away with the notion of sin, essentially eliminates the entire Bible!!

II Timothy 3:2 reminds us that “Dangerous times will come, for men will be lovers of themselves.”

It is indeed this new man-centered gospel of self-esteem that has hijacked the Gospel. And it is this gospel of self-esteem that has permeated the seeker-sensitive evangelical churches of today.

* And therein we find the “misinformation.”

Here’s the Truth: The Gospel of Salvation has as its bedrock the very idea of sinfulness and scripture confirms it repeatedly.

Bottom line: I am a wretch. I am the wretch the song refers to. You are a wretch. Every human being to ever walk the earth is and was… a wretch.

Amazing Grace!
How sweet the sound,
That saved a WRETCH like me. . .

Yet, to confront this by acknowledging sin in our culture today makes you a Bible-thumping Pharisaical fundamentalist [I mean that in a bad way.]

Leaders of the self-esteem reformation look down on the True Gospel of Salvation, pointing out that we should not “judge” others, but instead tolerate and love each other.

Wrong!

We cannot be saved without first acknowledging our own wretchedness before God; and we cannot share the Gospel of Salvation without first pointing out to others their wretchedness before God.

I dont know how many of you know or have heard about "Little house on the prairie". Its a series based on the books with the same name, written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, who expressed her and her family´s life in those books. they were a christian family. the series is very lovely and gives many good and christian teachings.

this is my favourite part of the series: a double episode called "I will be waving as you depart"
this is part 1 of 10. the other parts are conected to this one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spjmPpIzTVI

its about their first daughter Mary getting blind at the age of 15. the whole family has to struggle with that and they didnt understand why God allowed that to happen, but God leaded all things and in the end they got to see the purpose behind it all
so, i dont want to spoil too much :D if you want to know the whole story, just watch ;)

its a great example to me of trusting God completely, even in sorrows, and letting Him lead everything, having confidence that He works everything for our good, and of how wonderful He works in ways we never expect.
its a bit long, but definitelly worth watching. it had a great impact on my life

this time ill ask a simple bible question.

why does the bible/god support infanticide?

in deuteronomy god tells us that little children and infants are innocent and dont yet know good from evil. god goes on to say that fathers should not be killed for their children, or children killed for their fathers, each is to die for his own sin.

in exodus and numbers however god says "i the lord your god, am a jealous god, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation.

one example of this is when king david murders uriah so that he can commit adultery with uriah's wife. god goes against his own law and does not kill david. instead he kills david's innocent son for his father's sins.

in numbers 16 god kills korah, dathan and abiram including their wifes children and infants.

same happened to achaan's children in joshua 7.

in deuteronomy2 god orders the complete destruction of hesbon including all the innocent children and infants.

same happened to jericho in joshua 6 and the amalechites in 1 samuel 15. all infants were killed at god's request.

so again the question is, why does god/the bible support the killing of innocent children and infants?
